Bolton Abbey by Night

September 26, 2012

After a week of processing raw files here is a selection of images from my Whitby by Night Portfolio.

Shoot over 5 nights and 3 dawns on a Nikon D3x with varoius lighting techniques.

Whitby is a quaint, traditional fishing village on the North Yorkshire Coast. Famed for its connection to Dracula and its author Bram Stoker, Whitby has a long and rich history as a port and fishing town.

I am now looking for a whitby retail location.

St Martin Le Grand Church

March 20, 2012

Whilst on a photo recce of York I dropped into St Martin Le Grand Church on Coney Street.
I was chatting to the Warden he told me it was impossible to get a good photograph of the mail stainglass window due to the arch in the forground. I said I would shoot his window if I could take a shot from the top of the bell tower, deal on!  Using a 24mm shift lens and lighting to balance the light thru the windows and the inside foreground.
Its one of the most beautiful churches in the city, according to The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland, 1868

The church is named after St Martin of Tours, the patron saint of soldiers, founded in the late 11th, there are still remnants of masonry from that period.  As you enter the church, an enormous window is ahead, surprisingly located at eye level, as it was reconstructed here as part of the rebuilding of the church. It was originally the west window of the nave, and dates from 1437. It had been removed from the church earlier in the war, and so escaped bomb damage. Hutchinson and Palliser’s guide to York calls this “certainly the largest and arguably the finest of the city’s parish church windows”.

Muse Project

August 19, 2011

Bottom right, a PR shoot for Highcross, Highcross  invests in commercial properties that have the potential to offer significant added value through active asset management or development.  Whilst on Infirmary St Leeds I spotted the stone craft on a near by building.  The square images were shot on my iphone the other on a Nikon D3x with post production in photoshop.

A small selection of images from a recent shoot on behalf of a new picture “The Gulf Image Bank”.  Top image is of Media City Dubai, bottom left buildings on the waterfront of Dubai creek.  Centre Alain Robert, the French climber dubbed “Spiderman” scales the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Right, Burj Khalifa  Dubai, United, Arab, Emirates.  The  tallest man-made structure.
